"Robert und Alex Gehbauer starten erfolgreich in die Olympiasaison 2012"

 

Die Olympischen Sommerspiele 2012 in London werfen bereits ihre langen Schatten voraus!

Und so beginnt mitten im Winter die Rennsaison für die olympischen MTB Cross Country Sportler Robert und Alex Gehbauer.
Schon am ersten Tag des Jahres 2012 nahmen die Brüder an einem C 1 Wettkampf in der Türkei teil. Unter widrigsten Bedingungen – Kälte und Extremregen – errangen sie die Ränge 2 (Alexander) und 5 (Robert). Dabei hätte es noch wesentlich besser laufen können, wenn Robert nicht in Führung liegend aufgrund eines Materialdefekts viel Zeit eingebüßt hätte und damit alle Chancen auf einen Sieg vertan hätte. Trotzdem war für die beiden die Türkei eine Reise wert – errangen sie durch ihre Platzierungen doch wertvolle Weltranglistenpunkte.
Genau eine Woche nach dem Türkei Rennen nahmen Alex und Robert im niederösterreichischen Grafenbach an den österreichischen Staatsmeisterschaften im Querfeldein teil. Aufgrund einer Bronchialerkrankung in den Tagen vor dem Wettkampf (Alex) und starker Hautentzündungen (Alex und Robert), welche noch von dem Schlammrennen in der Türkei herrührten, waren die Vorzeichen auf diesen Wettkampf alles anderes als optimal. Und trotzdem konnten beide eine sehr gute Wettkampfleistung abrufen und errangen den 2. (Alexander) und 4. Platz (Robert). Alexander errang damit hinter dem verdienten Sieger Daniel Geismeyr aus Vorarlberg auch die Silbermedaille bei den österreichischen Staatsmeisterschaften.
Wie geht es in den nächsten Wochen bei Robert und Alex weiter?
Neben sehr umfangreichen Trainingsprogrammen ist am kommenden letzten Jänner Wochenende ein Start bei den Weltmeisterschaften im Querfeldein im belgischen Koksijde fix eingeplant. Sowohl Robert als Alexander wurden vom österreichischen Radsportverband für diese Titelkämpfe nominiert und freuen sich darauf im Mekka des Querfeldeinsports das Nationalteamtrikot tragen zu dürfen. Sie werden alles versuchen um österreich im WM Wettkampf vor Zehntausenden von enthusiastischen Fans würdig zu vertreten.
Am 6. Februar wird Alexander eine Maturaprüfung ablegen und schon zwei Tage darauf heben die beiden von Salzburg aus Richtung Mallorca zu einem fast dreiwöchigen Trainingslager nach Mallorca ab um dort weiter an ihrer Form für den ersten WC der Saison in Südafrika am 16. März zu arbeiten.
