KitzAlpBike Cross Country (Kategorie C 1) in Kirchberg/Tirol: Alexander Gehbauer als bester österreicher am "Stockerl"

Begeisterte Zuschauermassen erleben bei der 5. Station der diesjährigen Mountainbike Liga Austria in Kirchberg auf dem durch den nächtlichen Regen aufgeweichten und dadurch noch anspruchsvolleren Rundkurs in Kirchberg von Beginn an einen spannenden und sportlich hochstehenden Wettkampf mit Athleten aus 8 Nationen: Alexander Gehbauer, der Sieger der diesjährigen U 23 WCs von Dalby Forest und Offenburg nimmt die ersten 2 Runden mit ungeheurem Tempo in Angriff, nur der EM Marathon Zweite von Kleinzell Jukka Vastaranta aus Finnland kann ihm folgen. Vastaranta attackiert in der 3 von 8 zu fahrenden Runden, Gehbauer setzt mit dem Wissen, dass die zu erwartende nicht regelkonforme Renndauer von 2 Stunden (UCI Vorschreibung Renndauer: min. 1h 30, max. 1h 45) für ihn als jungen U 23 Fahrer bedeutend zu lange ist, nicht nach und versucht nur seinen bereits herausgefahrenen Zeitvorsprung von knapp 2 Minuten gegenüber seinen ersten Verfolgern in den noch zu fahrenden Runden zu verwalten. Dies gelingt ihm ausgezeichnet, nur Milan Spesny aus Tschechien kann ihm in der letzten Runde noch überholen und so wird Alex "nur" Dritter.
Der Bruder von Alexander, Robert, scheidet zu Rennmitte an aussichtsreicher Position liegend mit Sattelstützenbruch aus.

Alexander unmittelbar nach dem Zieleinlauf: "Ich konnte mich gleich vom Start weg zusammen mit dem sehr starken Jukka Vastaranta auf diesem technisch extrem anspruchsvollem Kurs vom Feld absetzen. Ich habe dann aber ein bisschen gedrosselt, da mir als U 23 Fahrer eine volle Ausbelastung von 2 Stunden eindeutig noch zu viel ist und meinen weiteren Saisonverlauf gefährden kann. Mit einem 2 Stunden Rennen macht man auch den Zuschauern keinen Gefallen - es ist keine Spannung mehr im Rennen. Aber vor allem die leistungsmäßig schwächeren U 23 Fahrer sollte man im Auge behalten. Sie fahren - wenn sich die Siegerzeit auf ungefähr 2 Stunden beläuft - mehr als 2 1/4 Stunden an ihrer absoluten Leistungsgrenze und das ist für ihre Entwicklung im Cross Country Bereich wirklich nicht förderlich.Mit meiner Renngestaltung der Temporeduzierung habe ich für mich persönlich Schadensbegrenzung betrieben."

Bis zur österreichischen Meisterschaft, welche am Sonntag, den 17.7 in Hohenems (Vorarlberg) stattfindet, befinden sich Robert und Alexander Gehbauer zum Höhentrainingslager im italienischen Livigno. An diesem Ort errang Robert 2005 den WM Titel in der Junioren Kategorie.
